What is ProductEvent

ProductEvent is an adware-type application targetting MacOS that is supposedly meant to enhance browsing activity with exclusive features. However, instead of bringing truly useful value, it promotes intrusive advertisements all over the web that appear in places they should not be. The types of ads may vary from regular banners to fake push-notification pop-ups that force users into clicking on the “Allow” button. These are the common symptoms you will find due to the presence of ProductEvent on your system. Some adware can also seek hijacking purposes which means stealing personal data like passwords, geolocations, IP-addresses or even credentials. All of this information can be easily gathered and sold to third-parties. Once installed, ProductEvent creates a short-cut icon (White magnifying glass on green background). Manual removal may result in an endless circle of useless attempts because these kinds of apps are stubborn and require a special approach. This is why we will show you how to remove ProductEvent from your computer and prevent further data loss.

How ProductEvent infected your computer

Adware-type programs have different sources of distribution such as bundled software, malicious pop-ups or downloads. Bundling itself is currently the most popular way that virus developers tend to abuse whilst infecting inexperienced users. Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) like adware is usually injected alongside other legitimately-looking software that can be downloaded from dubious pages. The installation procedure usually contains additional sections called “Advanced or Custom” that include third-parties programs. Adware is not an exception and can be installed alongside other intended software due to users’ negligence and carelessness. The infiltration will, therefore, cause a multitude of incoming ads appearing right on the screen and promoting malicious redirects to other potentially dangerous websites. Another sneaky method is via foolish push-notifications that can be seen on advertising landing pages. They push users into clicking on the “Allow” button to continue browsing or entering a website which then forces adware on your PC. Here is a short but informative guide on how to remove ProductEvent from your system.
