What is Eyedocx Ransomware

Eyedocx is a ransomware infection that encrypts access to system-stored data and presents instructions to make victims pay for the decryption. Once the encryption process gets put underway, all files will change according to this example – originally named 1.pdf will change to 1.pdf.encrypted and reset its icon. The assignment of random extensions is a common effect of many ransomware infections, designed to highlight the blocked data. The .encrypted extension is quite generic and can therefore be used by other ransomware variants as well. Once Eyedocx finishes running encryption, it creates a text note (readme.infomation) with ransom-demanding instructions.

we only need 3 bitcoins,thanks!

The text presented within the note is short, yet very precise – victims are guided to contact cybercriminals using Telegram messenger and be ready to pay 3 BTC (about 16,700$ at the moment of publishing this article). Normally, such big ransom fees are demanded when extortionists’ goal is to target companies or other organizations. Unfortunately, decrypting data without the direct involvement of cybercriminals is usually impossible. Initial ransomware developers are the only figures having access to decryption keys unless they were leaked somewhere on the web. Despite this, trusting threat actors and paying the ransom to them involves a risk to be fooled and not receive any promised decryption tools eventually. At the moment, the best viable way to recover the encrypted data is via backup copies. Backups are copied files that are stored on external storage (e.g., USB flash cards, cloud drive, etc). It is recommended to schedule regular backups of data to be able to recover it at any necessary moment. Below, you will also find some general information about reputable decryption/recovery tools, however, please note that their capacity might not be enough to decrypt Eyedocx files. You can give them a try if no other recovery option is left up for use. Before trying any recovery methods, it is important to first remove the ransomware from your computer. Although it will not unlock access to files, doing so will ensure no more malicious activity is present on your system. Use our guidelines below to get rid of ransomware and protect yourself against similar threats in the future.

How Eyedocx Ransomware infected your computer

Ransomware infections often occur via distribution channels like e-mail spam letters, trojans, deceptive third-party downloads, fake software updates/installers, backdoors, keyloggers, botnets, system exploits, and others as well. Such channels tend to use phishing techniques designed to fool inexperienced users into opening some malicious attachment or link. For instance, ransomware or trojan developers quite often send e-mail letters that are disguised as legitimate companies/entities (e.g., delivery companies, tax authorities, banks, and so forth). As a rule, such letters are promoted to make users open some phishing link or malicious attachment (.DOCX, .XLSX, .PDF, .EXE, .ZIP, .RAR, or .JS extensions) by claiming it is “important” or “urgent”. Once such attachments are opened according to instructions given by cybercriminals, the hidden infection will most likely end up installed on the targeted system unless there is special anti-malware software in place. Do not trust such letters and delete them immediately if there is anything that looks suspicious in them. Please note that file formats used in malicious letters have nothing to do with malware on the initial basis. Cybercriminals simply learned how to misuse their technical properties in order to inject and install computer/smartphone infections. Some users also receive malicious attachments from random people on social media or friends whose account was hacked and is now being manipulated by cybercriminals to deliver malware. We recommend you read our article below to learn more practical information about how to protect yourself against such and similar threats in the future.
