What is IdleCrawler
According to information written on the official website, IdleCrawler is a piece of software allowing users get insights about their competitors and create successful marketing campaigns (by tracking SERP information). Unfortunately, it’s usefulness is heavily doubted due to poor performance of the proclaimed features. During investigation, it was found that IdleCrawler does not create any boot-up shortcuts which makes its usage uncertain. The only way users find out about its presence is if they open a list of all programs. Once installed, it automatically launches two processes called Runner.exe
and Navigate.exe
, which run in the background and cause high CPU usage. This can therefore lead to slower PC performance and Internet speed. In addition to this, IdleCrawler also installs two entries in Windows Task Scheduler named Special IC Runner
and Advanced IC Updating
. The first is meant to boot the app each time a user logs into Windows and the other is used for downloading configuration instructions for the already mentioned Runner.exe process. As a rule, software like IdleCrawler is less likely to be installed by users themselves – instead, it is usually distributed via third-party program installers and without users’ consent. We should therefore note that IdleCrawler is not a piece of malware, but rather unwanted software that may get installed unwillingly. This and other information stated above gives a solid amount of reasons why IdleCrawler should be removed from your system. You can follow our guide below to do it effectively without traces.
How IdleCrawler infected your computer
Many third-party vendors that promote free software on their website monetize their work by advertising additional offers of other developers. It can be separate programs or browser plug-ins offered as something “useful” while completing the setup. You may oftentimes find them hidden inside of “Advanced” or “Custom” sections that can be adjusted at some point of the installation process. Is missed or intentionally ignored without deselecting their choice, such offers will most likely be installed and cause a lot of confusion on how has it happened. To avoid this and other infection types in the future, it is important to be more careful and instead opt for primarily legitimate software – download from official and trusted resources as well.
