What is Rozbeh Ransomware

Also known as R.Ransomware, Rozbeh is a ransomware infection that encrypts system-stored data to blackmail victims into paying money for its recovery. During encryption, it highlights blocked data by assigning random characters consisting of four symbols. For instance, a file like 1.pdf may change to 1.pdf.1ytu, 1.png to 1.png.7ufr, and so forth. Depending on what version of Rozbeh Ransomware made an attack on your system, instructions explaining how data can be recovered may be presented within text notes read_it.txt, readme.txt, or even in a separate pop-up window. It is also worth noting that the most recent ransom infection developed by Rozbeh swindlers is called Quax0r. Unlike other versions, it does not rename encrypted data and also displays its decryption guidelines in Command Prompt.

In general, all the ransom notes mentioned above contain identical patterns of guiding victims to pay the ransom – contact malware creators through Discord or, in some cases, by e-mail and send 1 Bitcoin (about $29,000 now) to the crypto address of cybercriminals. After the payment is done, extortionists promise to send a file decryptor along with the necessary key to unlock encrypted data. Unfortunately, in the majority of cases, encryption methods used by cybercriminals to render files inaccessible are complex, making manual decryption near-impossible. You can give it a try using some third-party instruments in our tutorial below, however, we are unable to guarantee they will actually work. A better and more secure method to restore your files is via backup copies. If there is a recent backup of data stored on some external device, it can be used to avoid paying the ransom. Moreover, trusting cybercriminals is always a risk – statistics show that many fool their victims and do not send any promised tools even after completing the payment. As an alternative, you may also save your encrypted files and keep them until a working decryption tool gets developed – there is a slight chance it does someday in the future. Before trying to recover your files without the help of cybercriminals (e.g. via backups), it is important to remove the virus and discontinue its malicious activity. You can do it in our tutorial below.

How Rozbeh Ransomware infected your computer

Ransomware and other types of infections distribute themselves using a number of ways. Phishing techniques hold a high place on the podium when it comes to successful infections. It is oftentimes implemented in attempts to spread malicious files or links via e-mail spam letters. Such letters are often disguised as something legitimate or important to trick users into opening different kinds of content. Files like Word, Excel, PDF, JavaScript, RAR, ZIP, and so forth can be attached to these messages. Although these files have nothing to do with malware on the initial basis, cybercriminals abuse their technical properties like macros to integrate and execute malware. Thus, if you received an unknown message with such files inside, ignore or even delete it immediately. Various malware is also actively spread via open-access pages where you can download pirated, cracked, or simply free software (e.g., Torrent clients, eMule, Gnutella, etc.). We advise you to beware of any unofficial and doubtful content you face on the web. Opt only for trusted/official resources and equip yourself with additional browsing tools such as AdBlock, which will hide most of the ads, including potentially dangerous ones.
