What is error code 264

Error code 264 is a pretty widespread issue that some players tend to experience while trying to launch Roblox on Windows 11 or earlier Windows editions. Here are the two most common messages that users often see on their screens:

“Same account launched game from different device. Reconnect if you prefer to use this device. (Error Code: 264).”

or

“You are already playing a game. Please shut down the other game and try again (Error Code: 264).”

As a rule, this error appears when players are logged into their Roblox account on multiple devices. To solve this problem, it is often enough to simply log out of your Roblox account on another device. In addition, poor network connection, corrupted cache, and even outdated Roblox versions could be the cause of the problem as well. Below we will show you a couple of methods that, with high probability, will fix the error. Try each presented solution until one of them eventually resolves the error code 264 and lets you play Roblox again.

2. Clear Roblox cache

If the first solution did not help you get rid of the 264 error, then the problem could be in a corrupted cache too. Sometimes, if a game is played over a long period of time, the accumulated cache can become overloaded and even corrupted eventually. Thus, the solution would be to simply clear the cache in the %TEMP% folder of Roblox. Don’t worry, this will not affect your Roblox progress in any way.

  1. First, make sure Roblox is closed and not running in the background. To be 100% sure, you can open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc together, then select the Roblox process, and click End Task to close it.
  2. Once done, press Windows key + R buttons, copy-paste %temp%\roblox, and press Enter.
  3. This will lead you to the folder containing temporary Roblox files. Select them all, right-click, and choose Delete. Confirm the action if prompted.
  4. After this, open the Roblox launcher, click on the three-dot icon on the left panel of the window, and click on Log Out at the bottom and confirm the action.

The issue may also make its presence known due to the wrong or damaged TCP/IP configuration. 7. Disable Proxy in Local Area Network (LAN) Settings

Another cause can be related to conflicts originating from the enabled Proxy server connection. If you remember turning it on by purpose, try to toggle it off and see if the problems with launching Roblox disappear. Also, if you have a third-party VPN program that is enabled, try to turn it off as well to check the difference.

  1. Open search box next to Start menu and type Control Panel. Open it up.
  2. Make sure View by is set to either Small Icons or Big Icons in the top right corner.
  3. Select Internet Options and navigate to Connections & LAN settings.
