Please note that our instructions are initially based on Windows 11, however, most of them look almost identical on earlier Windows versions as well.

1. Check the status of Zoom servers

Before moving on to any further solutions below, it is important to make sure the problem is not on Zoom’s side. It is typical for servers to sometimes experience certain issues, which are often temporary and fixed within a short period of time. Thus, check the Zoom servers’ status by going to this official status page. If something is shown in red, then it is likely to be the server’s problem. In this case, you should just wait and try to use Zoom after some time. Otherwise, if everything seems to be fine, try manual solutions from down below.

2. Restart your router

To start eliminating possible connection issues that prevent Zoom from retrieving the right communication from its servers, we recommend you first try restarting the router (modem) if you have a possibility to do so. Hold the power button at the back of the router for a couple of seconds until it turns off. Then, push the same button to power it back. Simply restarting your router can remove a variety of temporary connection issues. Try and see if it helps before moving further to the other solutions below.

3. Disable third-party antivirus

Third-party anti-malware software often includes its own firewall that can sometimes bother the operation of certain apps or services in Windows. Thus, if you have any third-party antivirus installed and running at the moment, try to disable it and see if it helps with the 10004 error. In case disabling the third-party antivirus helped, then the cause has been finally found. If disabling did not help or there is simply no third-party antivirus installed, you can also check if Zoom Video Conference is being blocked by the in-built firewall of Windows Defender. See how to do this down below:

  1. Type Windows Defender Firewall into the search bar next to Start Menu and open it up.
  2. Then go to Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall on the left panel of the window.
  3. Then, click on Change settings to unlock the list, find Zoom Video Conference, and make sure both boxes for Private and Public are selected.
  4. Finish by clicking OK to save the changes and then reboot your computer.

If you do not see Zoom Video Conference on the list:

  1. Click Allow another app and then click Browse.
  2. Open your Zoom folder. As a rule, it is located in this path C:/Users/YOURUSERNAME/AppData/Roaming/Zoom.
  3. After opening the Zoom folder, go to bin, scroll down, select the executable file of Zoom (Zoom.exe), and click Open.
  4. Then, click Add, select checkboxes for both Private and Public and click OK.

4. Manually Update Zoom Client

Since error 10004 indicates that the Zoom Video Conference app is struggling with automatically updating itself, you can try to update it manually as well. To do so, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Zoom and click on your Profile icon in the top right corner of the window.
  2. A drop-down menu will open. Click on Check for updates.
  3. If there is an update available, you will be able to click on Update and then Install buttons.
  4. After installing the update manually, check it helped get rid of the error.

5. Clear Zoom cache

The next solution is to clear temporary cache and cookies files that accumulated over Zoom usage and could possibly become corrupt. This is easy to do by deleting the files stored within the data folder. Here is how:

  1. First, make sure Zoom is closed and not running in the background. To be 100% sure, you can open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc together, then select the Roblox process, and click End Task to close it.
  2. Once done, press Windows key + R buttons, copy-paste %AppData%, and press Enter.
  3. Go to the Zoom folder and clear all files stored in data. You can also delete the folder itself.
  4. After this, log into your Zoom account again and see if this fixed the error.

6. Reset TCP/IP

The issue may also make its presence known due to the wrong or damaged TCP/IP configuration. TCP/IP is a set of fundamental protocols used to set up proper communication for the Internet and similar computer networks. And since error 10004 originates from connection problems, this method is worth giving a try. Here is how to do this:

  1. Find the Command Prompt by typing cmd into the searching box. Then right-click on it and choose Run as administrator.
  2. In the opened window, you should paste these commands one-by-one by clicking Enter after each.
  3. netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /renew

We hope this method will finally remove the problem.

7. Change address in DNS settings

Improper DNS settings may also play a role in raising connection problems. This configuration can sometimes be accidentally changed after some manipulations. It may also be set to find the server automatically, but not find the right one eventually. Whatever the reason for that, follow our instructions below in order to try alternative DNS settings:

To change DNS and IP:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.
  2. Double-click on your connection name.
  3. Click on Properties.
