What is BlackLegion Ransomware

BlackLegion Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to encrypt files on a victim’s computer, rendering them inaccessible, and then demanding a ransom for the decryption key. Once installed on a computer, BlackLegion encrypts files and appends a unique extension to the filenames. Any files encrypted with BlackLegion Ransomware will have a random 8 characters followed by the victim’s email and the .BlackLegion extension. For example, a file named photo.jpg might be renamed to photo.jpg.[random-numbers].[Blackdream01@zohomail.eu].BlackLegion after encryption. BlackLegion creates a ransom demand in the form of a text file, typically named DecryptNote.txt or a variant thereof. This note includes instructions on how to pay the ransom, usually in cryptocurrency, and may offer to decrypt a single file for free as proof that the attackers can restore the victim’s files.

As of the knowledge cutoff date, there are no specific decryption tools mentioned for BlackLegion Ransomware. Decryption without the key provided by the attackers is generally not feasible due to the strength of the encryption used. Among available options are restoring from backups, or, if you don’t have one, using file-recovery software featured below in the article to rescover (not decrypt) some of the files affected by ransomware. To prevent infection by ransomware like BlackLegion, users should maintain up-to-date backups of their data in multiple locations, such as remote servers or unplugged storage devices. Regular system scans with reliable antivirus software are also recommended to detect and remove threats. If a system is infected, removing the ransomware does not decrypt the files, but it does prevent further encryption. Victims are advised against paying the ransom, as this does not guarantee the recovery of files and supports criminal activity.
