What is BookLot

BookLot is a Potentially Unwanted Program categorized as adware. The app stands for the remastered version of Wikipedia developed as a separate desktop program. In other words, BookLot should allow its users to search for various Wikipedia articles right from the desktop. Whilst this may seem useful indeed, BookLot cannot be trusted in multiple aspects. Adware programs alter certain settings to display intrusive and dubious ads, collect personal data (passwords, IP addresses, geolocations, etc.), and run countless other suspicious activities. Content promoted by BookLot may be seen whilst surfing the web and contain hidden redirects to potentially dangerous pages. For this exact reason, it is recommended to remove BookLot from your system. Sometimes it may be hard to perform the complete removal on your own. Thus, you can follow our tutorial below to do this.

How BookLot infected your computer

Applications like BookLot are often distributed via bundled software. This method is used by third-party vendors to promote their software alongside other programs. The list of such programs consists of free, pirated, or cracked software downloaded from dubious pages. Installation setups of this software usually contain additional offers within “Advanced”, “Custom”, or “Manual” sections. Unless users decline these offers on their own, an unwanted program will be installed in the system without consent. This is why it is important to check it and deselect third-party programs in case they are existent. Rarely, but yet some unwanted programs can be installed after clicking on malicious ads. This is only possible if such ads have been equipped with executable scripts that run background installations. Before closing this part and moving on to removal instructions, it is also worth mentioning that BookLot has its own installation setup that can be downloaded from the official website. However, pages with such software are never visited intentionally unless you clicked on a banner leading to them.
