What is Buddyransome Ransomware
Buddyransome is a ransomware virus that functions by encrypting access to data. Cybercriminals use its capabilities to restrict potentially important files and blackmail victims into paying money for full decryption. Victims can see the malicious change once targeted files get altered with the new .buddyransome extension – for instance, a file like
1.pdf will change to
1.pdf.buddyransome and reset its original icon after successful encryption. After this, a text note containing decryption instructions (HOW_TO_RECOVERY_FILES.txt) will be created.
Your company has been hacked!
All your files are encrypted, but we understand that you can most likely recover from backups.
We have also dumped all of your documents relating to accounting, administration, legal, HR, SQL, passwords and more!
If we don't come to an agreement, we will be forced to hand over all your files to the media for publicity.

If you want to decrypt your files and prevent them from leaking, write to us : firstname.lastname@example.org
Please provide your personal ID in the email
Victims are said all the important data has been encrypted and is now at risk of being published to online resources. To prevent this and decrypt the blocked data, cybercriminals instruct to write an e-mail message to email@example.com and include their personal ID by copy-pasting it from the generated note. After this, threat actors should respond with the price for decryption/non-disclosure of data and provide instructions on how to perform the payment. Unfortunately, Buddyransome uses a strong sequence of encryption algorithms to generate online keys varying for each victim. You can read this article to learn more about how ransomware encryption works and when it may be possible to run third-party decryption without the help of cybercriminals. For now, there is no known third-party tool that is able to decrypt .buddyransome files for free. The only two ways to return your data are either by taking the risk and collaborating with cybercriminals, or recovering files from an available backup. You can also not do anything if the encrypted data was not important and you can afford to lose it. Alas, this will not help you bypass the threat of having your data eventually leaked to the web. Backups are copies of files stored on external storage (e.g., cloud, USB pen drives, etc.) that were not affected at the time of infection. Using a backup is always a safer and completely free option. Unless you are planning to pay the ransom, deleting ransomware is paramount to not let it encrypt other files at the time of manual recovery. It is also important to remove it after decrypting files with cybercriminals if you decide to. Follow our guide below to do so and get protection against such threats in the future. You will also see some reputable third-party decryption/recovery software recommended in our guide, however, this recommendation is general and does not guarantee the tools will successfully decrypt files modified by Buddyransome Ransomware.
How Buddyransome Ransomware infected your computer
Malware infections are not bound to one single infiltration channel – they can penetrate systems in a variety of different ways. For instance, via trojans, malicious e-mail spam letters, fake updates, and license cracking tools, malicious installers of pirated or cracked software, unprotected RDP configuration, unreliable ads, backdoors, keyloggers, and other dubious channels. As a rule, most infections get installed when users open some malicious file or link. One such example is when ransomware gets disguised as a legitimate file (.DOCX, .XLSX, .PDF, .EXE, .ZIP, .RAR, or .JS extensions) and distributed in spam e-mail letters impersonating legal companies/entities (e.g., delivery companies, tax authorities, banks, and so forth). If the attached content ends up opened according to cybercriminals’ guidelines, the contained infection will be likely deployed for installation on the targeted system. Thus, you should always examine the letters you receive for senders’ addresses, irrelevant content, suspicious links/attachments, and so forth. A similar infection pattern can be used by other distribution channels as well – e.g., when users download some pirated or cracked version of the software from a shady web page. The installation of such software may look completely unsuspicious, however, the final result can alas be an inadvertent infection of malware. Stay away from interacting with dubious download sources, torrent-sharing pages, suspicious ads, potentially malicious attachments/links, and other kinds of risky content. Download software only from official resources to prevent drive-by (stealth) installations of malware. Read our guide below to learn more about establishing protection against threats like ransomware (and other malware) in the future.

How to protect computer from viruses, like Buddyransome Ransomware , in future
1. Get special anti-ransomware software
Use ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware
Famous antivirus brand ZoneAlarm by Check Point released a comprehensive tool, that will help you with active anti-ransomware protection, as an additional shield to your current protection. The tool provides Zero-Day protection against ransomware and allows you to recover files. ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware is compatible with all other antiviruses, firewalls, and security software except ZoneAlarm Extreme (already shipped with ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware) or Check Point Endpoint products. The killer features of this application are: automatic file recovery, overwrite protection that instantly and automatically recovers any encrypted files, file protection that detects and blocks even unknown encryptors.
2. Back up your files
As an additional way to save your files, we recommend online backup. Local storage, such as hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, or remote network storage can be instantly infected by the virus once plugged in or connected to. Buddyransome Ransomware uses some techniques to exploit this. One of the best services and programs for easy automatic online backup is iDrive. It has the most profitable terms and a simple interface. You can read more about iDrive cloud backup and storage here.
3. Do not open spam e-mails and protect your mailbox
Malicious attachments to spam or phishing e-mails are the most popular method of ransomware distribution. Using spam filters and creating anti-spam rules is good practice. One of the world leaders in anti-spam protection is MailWasher Pro. It works with various desktop applications and provides a very high level of anti-spam protection.
