What is FileEngineering Ransomware

FileEngineering is an example of ransomware-infection configuring files of victims to restrict access to them. Most of the time, users do not spot malware coming into the systems. Once upon a time, they end up seeing their data changed and locked from regular access. FileEngineering does it this way – by assigning victim’s ID, cybercriminal’s e-mail address, and .encrypted extension at the end of the files. There are two versions of FileEngineering being spread around the web. The only difference is in using different e-mail addresses to contact swindlers. For example, you may see your data appear as 1.mp4.id=[BE38B416] Email=[FileEngineering@mailfence.com].encrypted or id=[654995FE] Email=[FileEngineering@rape.lol].encrypted depending on which version affected your PC. Then, the next step of FileEngineering’s activity is creating a note called Get your files back!.txt that contains information regarding decryption.

Get your files back!.txt
I am a security engineer.
I noticed that your system security is very weak and I hacked it.
And all your files are encrypted!
I can return your files for a fair amount of Bitcoin and also tell you your security vulnerabilities.
Send an email to this address : FileEngineering@mailfence.com
And write this ID in its subject : BE38B***
If I did not reply to you within 12 hours, send an email to : FileEngineering@tutanota.com
or this email : FileEngineering@elude.in
For more trust you can send a small file to me and I will show you Your files are decryptable
There is no way to decrypt your files, so pay attention to the following:
* Never change the name of your files, you may have problems with the decrypt
* Never try to decrypt files with another tool
* You may have a backup of your files but you will never notice your system bugs and I can hack your system again

Inside of it, the information is addressed by a so-called security engineer. He says that you should contact him via e-mail and pay some amount of Bitcoin. Then, he will return your files decrypted and give some tips on improving your safety. Before that, you are also allowed to send a small file to prove he can unlock your data. Trusting cybercriminals is always a huge risk, so it is up to you whether you want it or not. If files are not of big value to you, you can simply delete FileEngineering and continue using your PC. In other cases, we are afraid that free decryption is not possible at this point time. Strong algorithms do not allow programs to break them unless there are bugs or flaws in the virus itself. Whatever the case, we recommend you remove FileEngineering Ransomware and try to use some methods presented in the article below.

How FileEngineering Ransomware infected your computer

When thinking about the distribution of ransomware, the first channel coming to mind is e-mail spam. Indeed, cybercriminals tend to exploit this method because of its huge popularity. It is explained by a large number of people using e-mails on a regular basis, so it would be strange for swindlers to miss such a big haul. They do so by sending messages with malicious attachments (MS Office documents, PDFs, executables, and JavaScript files) or links that lead to fishing websites. When users decide to open them, the consequences are clear – instant infection of malware and privacy damage. This is why it is advised against interacting with unknown content, even if it is marked as something legitimate. Additionally, we have to inform you about the existence of other channels like trojans, backdoors, unprotected RDP configuration, fake software updates, and cracking tools. You can use extra utilities to ensure you are protected from accident clicks and other actions performed on the web. Read more information about security tips in the tutorial below.

As an additional way to save your files, we recommend online backup. Local storages, such as hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, or remote network storages can be instantly infected by the virus once plugged in or connected to. FileEngineering Ransomware uses some techniques to exploit this. One of the best services and programs for easy automatic online backup is iDrive. It has the most profitable terms and a simple interface. You can read more about iDrive cloud backup and storage here.

3. Do not open spam e-mails and protect your mailbox
