What is Identification.app

Identification.app is an application that has been identified as adware, a type of malicious software that displays unwanted advertisements on your device, often in the form of pop-ups or banners. This application is part of the Pirrit adware family. Adware is designed to generate revenue for its developers by feeding users with unwanted and potentially dangerous ads. This third-party graphical content is displayed on visited websites and/or other interfaces. Identification.app adware is a threat to device/user safety. Even if it does not deliver adverts, it remains a threat because adware-displayed ads can be potentially dangerous. Adware’s main intended victims are individuals, as opposed to businesses. It follows the individual user across any path of opportunity—from Windows PCs and Macs, to mobile phones, and virtually all browsers. If your computer is already infected with Identification.app, it is recommended to run a scan with an antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware. There are also manual processes you can use to root out adware, but it’s usually easier and safer to use an adware removal tool, which can recognize adware and remove it without risking the deletion of legitimate files.

How Identification.app infects Mac computers

Adware like Identification.app can infect Macs through apps you download, either from the official Apple App Store or — more commonly — elsewhere on the Web. In some cases, a seemingly ordinary app is submitted to an application store, then later updated with malicious code. This phenomenon, known as versioning, allows shady developers to bypass an application marketplace’s app review process for longer.
