What is Jamper Ransomware

Jamper Ransomware is a nasty file-encryption virus, that uses AES algorithm to encrypt your files and extorts a ransom of 1 to 3 BTC (Bitcoins). This malware is the successor of VegaLocker (Vega Ransomware) and predecessor of Buran Ransomware. Jamper Ransomware, depending on the version, may add .jamper, .jumper or .SONIC extensions to files it affects. After ransomware activity, your files become inaccessible and unreadable. Malware creates ransom note file called —README—.TXT after it finishes. In the text boxes below you can find ransom notes, created by different variation of the virus.

Jamper Ransomware does not bypass UAC, so users themselves grant an executable the permission to run. The virus uses the file marker V…………….., added to the beginning of the file code. After execution, removes itself and clears the system and application event logs, RDP log, PowerShell log, trusted certificates log. Jamper Ransomware removes shadow copies of files (VSS), disables recovery features of Windows, which makes it difficult to recover encrypted files. Ransomware modifies files of MS Office documents, OpenOffice, PDF, text files, databases, photos, music, video, image files, archives, etc. It does not encrypt the following types of files:

.bat, .cmd, .com, .cpl, .dll, .lnk, .msc, .msp, .pif, .scr, .sys, .vega

We do not recommend you to pay the ransom, because, usually, hackers don’t send any decryptors. Our recommendations can help you to recover at least some of the files encrypted by Jamper Ransomware.
