What is NoBit Ransomware

NoBit is a new virus from ransomware category that encrypts data and demands payment for its decryption. It is a new generation ransomware builder that is dangerous and sophisticated, highlighting the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals. The ransomware builder’s straightforward interface enables even novice hackers to easily create potent ransomware strains. NoBit RAAS builder is active on the dark web marketplaces. Once the virus is executed, it immediately infects the system and communicates to remote server so that unique key can be generated for the specific computer. After acquiring the key, it starts to decrypt target files using a complex method that is almost unbreakable. NoBit ransomware encrypts files and appends their filenames with a .bit extension. This ransomware presents its ransom note in an opened window, modifies desktop wallpaper and does not create any text files.

PERSONAL KEY:

The ransom note created by NoBit states that the victim’s files have been encrypted and provides instructions for recovery. The victim is instructed to contact the attackers and send them their unique key and a single file (less than 1 MB) to test decryption. The note lists recovery steps. Once recovery is verified, the victim has to pay a ransom: either 400 USD in Bitcoin cryptocurrency or 350 USD in Monero cryptocurrency. Following payment, the victim is promised the decryption key. The ransom note contains a “sales department” .onion link accessible through a TOR browser, enabling victim organizations to contact the actors through a live chat panel to discuss payment for their files. There are currently no decryption tools available for NoBit Ransomware. However, the decoding tools are constantly updated, so the effective countermeasure may soon arrive. Victims should not pay the ransom, as it does not guarantee that the attackers will provide the decryption key. The best course of action is to remove the NoBit virus before attempting the decryption.
