What is ParameterBuffer

ParameterBuffer is a type of adware that specifically targets Mac computers. It is part of the AdLoad malware family and is known for running intrusive advertisement campaigns. Adware, short for advertising-supported software, typically delivers unwanted ads, such as pop-ups, surveys, coupons, and overlays, on various interfaces. These ads often promote online scams, unreliable software, and can even lead to malware infections. Removing ParameterBuffer from a Mac can be achieved in a couple of ways. Manual removal requires users to search for and delete all files associated with ParameterBuffer, which includes checking the Applications folder, system preferences, and browser extensions for any unknown or suspicious items. Alternatively, users can utilize legitimate antivirus software like Spyhunter to scan their Mac and remove ParameterBuffer automatically. This method is particularly recommended for those who are not comfortable with manual removal or want to ensure that all components of the adware are thoroughly eliminated.

How ParameterBuffer infects Mac computers

The infection process of ParameterBuffer on Macs can occur through various avenues. Users might install ParameterBuffer inadvertently by clicking on a malicious link or downloading an attachment from a phishing email. The adware can also gain access to systems by exploiting vulnerabilities in the Mac’s operating system or other installed applications. Another common method of infection is through bundling with other software downloaded from the internet. During the installation of such software, ParameterBuffer may be installed without the user’s knowledge if they do not carefully review and opt-out of additional offers or fail to use custom installation settings. To avoid re-infection with adware like ParameterBuffer, users should exercise caution when opening emails, downloading files from the internet, and should always select custom installation settings when installing new software to prevent unintentional installation of bundled adware. Additionally, regularly updating the Mac’s operating system and applications is crucial in closing off security vulnerabilities that could be exploited by adware.
