What is TypeInitiator

TypeInitiator is a type of software classified as adware, which generates revenue for its developer by automatically displaying advertisements. It has characteristics of a browser hijacker, meaning it can change certain browser settings to promote a fake search engine. This application belongs to the Adload malware family. It typically generates banners, coupons, surveys, pop-up ads, and other types of advertisements. The ads displayed by TypeInitiator can lead to untrustworthy websites or run certain scripts causing unexpected downloads or installations, making it unsafe to click on these ads. Once installed, TypeInitiator can cause various problems. It can slow down your Mac, display unwanted pop-up ads, and redirect you to dubious websites. It can also track your internet browser activity, potentially leading to privacy issues. The adware can modify your homepage, search engine, search results, or even add toolbars to your web browser. It can run in the background when you surf the web, slowing down your machine and affecting its performance.

How TypeInitiator infects Mac computers

TypeInitiator is often distributed through deceptive installers that mimic legitimate software installers, such as Adobe Flash Player. This is a common method used to distribute potentially unwanted applications or even malicious programs like trojans and ransomware. It’s strongly recommended not to trust apps that are distributed using unofficial installers. Adware like TypeInitiator usually comes bundled with certain free apps that users download from the web. During the installation process, users may unknowingly agree to install the adware due to not carefully reading the ‘Terms of use’, the ‘license agreement’, and other installation screens. Therefore, it’s crucial to always choose the ‘Manual’ or ‘Advanced’ setup method when installing anything downloaded from the internet.
