How Captcha.info infected your computer

Captcha.info is a ubiquitous trick used to hijack users’ data that can be seen quite regularly. The most popular way of dissemination is either pop-up or bundled delivery. Hijackers tempt to integrate this feature into intermediate advertisement pages that are generated while crossing between websites. Displayed on a landing page, it tries to fool you into clicking on “Allow notifications” or “Click allow to continue” buttons. Often on the page you can see the message:

Captcha.info wants to Show notifications
Click Allow to confirm that you are not a robot

This action will, therefore, activate the flow of different advertisements right on your desktop. Also, this infection can be spread with other free software. Unreliable pirated websites do not always provide clear software to satisfy the user’s needs. On the contrary, it tries to bundle lots of other junk that can appear to be harmful like Captcha.info. Once you finish downloading any program, chances are, there will be something else installed along the way. And you never know if it is going to impact you adversely in some way. To block ads and pop-ups use special ad-blocking utilities, for example, AdGuard (AdGuard for Mac).
