What is Razer Ransomware

Razer is the name of a ransomware infection that runs encryption of data requesting victims to pay money for its return. Users infected with this virus will see their file names changed with a random string of characters, cybercriminals’ e-mail address (razer1115@goat.si), and .razer extension at the end. For instance, a file named 1.pdf that went through these changes will look something like this 1.pdf.[42990E91].[razer1115@goat.si].razer and reset its icon to blank. In order to decrypt the data, virus developers offer to follow their instructions provided within the readme-warning.txt text note.

Little FAQ:
Q: Whats Happen?
A: Your files have been encrypted and now have the "razer" extension. The file structure was not damaged, we did everything possible so that this could not happen.
Q: How to recover files?
A: If you wish to decrypt your files you will need to pay in bitcoins.
Q: What about guarantees?
A: Its just a business. We absolutely do not care about you and your deals, except getting benefits. If we do not do our work and liabilities - nobody will cooperate with us. Its not in our interests.
To check the ability of returning files, you can send to us any 2 files with SIMPLE extensions(jpg, xls, doc, etc... not databases!) and low sizes(max 1 mb), we will decrypt them and send back to you. That is our guarantee.
Q: How to contact with you?
A: You can write us to our mailbox: razer1115@goat.si or pecunia0318@tutanota.com or pecunia0318@goat.si
Q: How will the decryption process proceed after payment?
A: After payment we will send to you our scanner-decoder program and detailed instructions for use. With this program you will be able to decrypt all your encrypted files.
Q: If I don’t want to pay bad people like you?
A: If you will not cooperate with our service - for us, its does not matter. But you will lose your time and data, cause only we have the private key. In practice - time is much more valuable than money.
DON'T try to change encrypted files by yourself!
If you will try to use any third party software for restoring your data or antivirus solutions - please make a backup for all encrypted files!
Any changes in encrypted files may entail damage of the private key and, as result, the loss all data.

It is said victims should contact the frauds using one of the e-mails (razer1115@goat.si, pecunia0318@tutanota.com, or pecunia0318@goat.si) and pay the ransom in bitcoins. To convince victims that they can be trusted, cybercriminals offer the so-called guarantee option where victims are allowed to send 2 files with simple extensions (max 1MB) and receive them decrypted for free. Many ransomware creators use this trick to prompt victims into paying the ransom and staying in contact with them. We highly recommend you avoid meeting the requests of the developers and recover your data using a backup, instead. Unfortunately, it is also less likely you will be able to decipher the encoded data using third-party decryption tools. Ciphers assigned by Razer Ransomware are cryptographically strong meaning third-party decryption is bare to help. On the contrary, employing third-party software may fail and result in permanent damage and therefore loss of the data. Cybercriminals are the only figures that wield the necessary keys to restore your data. However, it does not guarantee that crooks will return your data after paying the ransom. Many of them tend to fool their victims and not send any promised decryption tools. A better option would be to delete the virus and recover your data using backup copies of files. If there are no such available, you can still resort to some third-party tools and give them a try after all. All the instructions you need to delete Razor Ransomware, recover your data, and learn how the virus could sneak into your system, can be found below.

How Razer Ransomware infected your computer

Developers make their best to inject malware into your system by spreading malicious files inside of e-mail spam letters. This is a very popular technique abused by many virus developers. Users may receive such messages disguised as legitimate newsletters or delivery notifications by popular firms (DHL, DPD, FedEx, etc.) or governmental organizations. Whatever it is, the content of these messages often looks like a click-bait trap designed to fool into downloading some files or opening links. Razer was spotted to be distributed in the form of a PDF file via malicious letters. However, it is not exempt that some other file types could be involved in other letters as well (Word, Excel, JavaScript, or EXE). Besides getting injected through e-mail spam content, cybercriminals are known to use other channels as well – e.g. trojans, fake software updates/installers, unprotected RDP configuration, forged activators of licensed software, backdoors, keyloggers, and other types of suspicious vectors. To be sure you are well-protected against them in future usage, follow our guide below. There is plenty of useful information related to securing your network and PC.
